Brighton Lit and Phil
Literature and Philosophy for the Sociable
Lit and Phil is a tradition going back a long way:
Manchester....."for
lively minds around Manchester", since 1781 (predating the founding of
Manchester University)
Newcastle-upon-Tyne founded 1793, "it
gathers strength as it goes"
Leicester
founded 1835, "the subjects introduced should be of intellectual
interest"
These groups interest themselves in many subjects (including science)
In Lewes there was the Headstrong society (inspired by
Tom Paine).
Although there is not a Lit and Phil in Brighton,
there are other groups you may like:

Cafe Scientifique is alive and well in several places
including Brighton, has an impressive range of speakers, and could well
serve as a model.
